When people think about productivity, they often focus on square footage, storage, or desk size. I used to think the same way.
My previous home had a dedicated office: walls, doors, and furniture chosen solely for function. It was practical. It was efficient. It was quiet.
But it didn’t energize me.
Now, my desk sits near floor-to-ceiling windows, elevated high above the city. The first thing I see every morning is light, natural, expansive, constantly changing light.

In high-rise living, light behaves differently. It’s less obstructed. It’s broader. It feels intentional, even when it isn’t.
On bright days, the energy is obvious, clear skies, long shadows, a sense of openness that pulls your focus outward and upward.
But what surprised me most were the other days.
- Rainy days feel cinematic rather than dull.
- Snowy days feel quiet, insulated, almost poetic.
- Even extreme cold looks beautiful from above.
From a high-rise, the weather becomes a visual texture rather than an inconvenience. Right now, when I am drafting this article, I can see beautiful snow outside; it’s magical.
And when you work in a creative field, or build ideas for a living, that matters more than we realize.
Setting Up a Desk With a View (Not Just Near a Window)
I didn’t just place my desk near a window. I designed my work zone around the view.
As many of you know, I often talk about my ultra-wide screen. It shows up throughout my home, not as a tech obsession, but as a design and productivity tool. The wide screen allows me to work expansively without cluttering my desk or my mind.
Paired with the city skyline, the screen doesn’t compete with the view—it grounds it.
This setup does something subtle but powerful:
- Your eyes alternate naturally between near focus (your work) and far focus (the view)
- Your posture improves because the space feels open.
- Mental fatigue decreases because your environment is visually stimulating without being chaotic.
It’s an energy station, not just a desk.
Creativity Thrives Without a Schedule
As a full-time entrepreneur, my work doesn’t run on a strict 9–5 rhythm. Some days I write early. Other days, ideas come late at night. Creativity doesn’t clock in; it arrives when the conditions are right.
High-rise living supports that unpredictability beautifully.
In winter, especially when daylight fades early, I transition my home intentionally around 5:00–5:30 pm. This is where lighting becomes just as important as the view itself.
Nightfall, Layered Lighting, and the City Glow
At night, my condo transforms.
I don’t rely on overhead lighting. Instead, I layer lamps, soft glows, and warm accents throughout the space. When the interior lighting is intentional, something magical happens outside.
The city lights respond.
Windows become reflections. Buildings glow. The skyline feels alive but calm.
Sometimes, instead of sitting at my desk, I move to what I call my thought processing corner, a quiet spot designed purely for thinking, reflecting, and writing without pressure.
