Are You Unlucky or Just Stuck? 7 Ways to Turn Your Luck Around

In my earlier reflection, I Am Extremely Lucky — That’s What People Tell Me About My Success,” I shared how curiosity, learning, and preparation have shaped my journey. Many people call it luck. But what I’ve come to see is that luck is not something that happens to us. Luck is something we create through intention, growth, and readiness.

Here are seven ways you can turn your luck around and start creating the opportunities you seek.

1. Understand What Luck Is

Luck isn’t random. It’s not a mysterious force that blesses some people and forgets others. Luck happens when opportunity meets preparation. This powerful idea, so beautifully expressed in The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra — a book I believe everyone should read (Find here on Amazon) — profoundly shaped how I view success.

Chopra describes luck as something we co-create with the universe. According to the book, luck is not about waiting for something magical to happen. It is about preparing yourself through knowledge, growth, and inner alignment so that when opportunities present themselves, you can recognize them and take action.

The opportunities you desire — that dream career, that business you want to build, that trip you long to take, that relationship you hope for — they already exist. They are out there, waiting for you to be ready. The real question is: Are you prepared to meet them?

When we shift our mindset to see luck as the beautiful intersection of preparedness and opportunity, we stop waiting for good fortune and start building it ourselves.

2. Commit to Lifelong Learning

Curiosity is the foundation of readiness. Don’t limit your education to your formal education and degree; you are not done learning. Whatever sparks your interest — health, investing, writing, design, real estate, finance, becoming a YouTuber, or innovating a product from your brilliant idea — dive into it fully. Every bit of knowledge you gain builds layers of preparation. Just get started; as you learn more on a specific topic, you will unlock a wealth of knowledge as long as you continue.

So much of my own “luck” came from passions I pursued simply because I was curious — and later, those passions became opportunities. I read books, took online courses, and applied the lessons I learned in life. That’s the formula to gain confidence.

3. Organize Your Personal Life

True luck flows more easily when life is in order. One book that helped me understand this concept is The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo (Available on Amazon). It’s about more than decluttering your home — it’s about preparing yourself for growth. The title says it all if you reflect on its deeper meaning.

When your space, routines, and finances are in harmony, you can embrace opportunity without hesitation. I don’t mean just cleaning and organizing; I mean creating a lifestyle that is sustainable and long-lasting. This will create a smooth flow of energy, enabling you to focus on your dream projects.

4. Stay on a Personal Growth Journey

Every book you read, every new skill you learn, every habit you refine — they all prepare you for your next big moment. When I took a nutrition course in 2013-2014 or began investing in 2020, I didn’t know how those steps would connect. But they did. I published more than 15 books on high-protein and high-fiber lifestyles and created this purpose-driven media company.

Keep growing. Your future luck is shaped by what you do today. The key here is to follow what inspires you so you won’t quit learning. Don’t copy other people’s passion — I see this mistake being made all the time.

5. Manage Your Emotions

Emotional intelligence (EQ) is essential for success. Life will always bring challenges, but how you handle them defines your path. This is even more important when success means more than money — when it means meaningful relationships, leadership, and impact.

Strengthening your emotional intelligence (EQ) helps you respond rather than react and stay prepared for opportunities.

6. Learn to Connect the Dots and Cultivate a Positive Mindset

Luck often comes from seeing connections that others miss. The more you learn and the more positive your mindset is, the easier it is to link ideas, experiences, and opportunities together. A positive outlook helps you recognize potential where others see problems — and enables you to act with clarity. You will be surprised how opportunities start to appear when you begin to connect the dots.

7. Ask: Are You Ready?

When you are prepared, and opportunity knocks on your door, you will be able to execute with confidence. You’ll recognize the moment for what it is and act boldly.

If you feel like opportunities are passing you by or the alternative perspective is Why am I not able to do this, the answer is that you are not ready; don’t see it as defeat. Instead, ask: What do I need to do to get there? Let that question guide your next steps and fuel your preparation.

Final Reflection

Luck isn’t a gift of chance. It’s something you develop through learning, growth, emotional strength, and a positive mindset. When you’re ready, the opportunities align — and that’s when the magic happens.

So start today because luck is always waiting for those who are prepared to receive it.
