How to Create a Personal Style That Feels Effortless and Elegant: 4 Tips That Work

Creating a personal style is more than following trends; it’s about understanding what makes you feel confident, comfortable, and chic.

I love wearing skirts and blouses in the office. When I wear trousers or jeans, I usually get comments, “This is not you.” I love the feminine yet polished feel they bring. My wardrobe definitely leans heavier on skirts—okay, maybe an equal split with dresses—but I consistently reach for skirts when I want to feel like me. I often style them with long wool coats and designer bags as statement pieces. That balance of structure and softness feels just right. Find your simple signature look and make that foundation of your wardrobe.

One thing you won’t find in my closet? Big, chunky jewelry. It’s just not my style. I prefer delicate, minimal pieces that complement an outfit instead of overpowering it. I rarely wear jewelry anyway.

And that’s the thing—your outfit should never outshine your personality. The goal is always to create an elegant look with minimal effort.

Here are a few tips I live by when it comes to building personal style:

1. One Statement Piece at a Time

Choose a single item to stand out. If you carry a bold designer bag, keep your jewelry simple and refined. If you wear stunning statement earrings, let the rest of the outfit support them rather than compete. The key is balance—your outfit should draw attention, but never in too many directions at once. If you wear too many statement pieces, you will end up looking trying too hard to look good.

2. Comfortable High Heels Only

I wear high heels most days, but I never sacrifice comfort. A gorgeous pair of heels should elevate your look, not slow you down. If your shoes are uncomfortable, they instantly take away from that effortless, polished energy. Find heels that feel as good as they look. Don’t compromise comfort for a look.

3. Keep the Outfit Simple—Let Accessories and Outerwear Shine

The foundation of my personal style is always simple, clean lines. From there, I add statement accessories or a standout coat. This keeps the look elegant and stylish while letting your personality peek through in special touches.

4. Healthy Skin and Hair with minimal makeup

No outfit can fully shine if you’re not taking care of yourself. Glowing skin and healthy hair are the best accessories. Stick to minimal makeup and a simple hairstyle that suits your features. It’s all about enhancing what’s already there.

I will leave you with my favorite quote from Tom Ford: ” Dressing well is a form of good manners.”
